Me and brother Matt set off at about 2 pm on Saturday just past. After some hairy river crossings we made it up to our favouring fishing hole where we spent until dark. I missed 2 bites and it all looked like it was going to be a very fruitless trip. Oh, no matter, we still had beer. We had to make a quick dash past the last river crossing in the dark and made camp at top crossing around 6:30pm. It was very cold and the wood was wet, but once we got the fire roaring we were happy with a few beers in our bellies. Just enough time to get the last few casts in before we have a feed. But things were still slow and a bit dark for scrub bashing. Morning came and I was out early to try another very productive race. Spent 2 hours there but no reward. Matt slept in (something he ate?) but once he made it down to the water I was ready to get breaky going. He moved up the river a little further where he spent an hour at this one hole when he bagged a never nice brown trout (about 2lb). After breaky we moved on to some spots we have never tried. I got hammered by blackberry before I found a very nice set of races about 1/2km up from where Matt was fishing. I spent over an hour there but nothing! I decided just a couple more casts when BANG a nice little pan sized rainbow, and then next cast a 2lb rainbow, very happy but another slog back through the blackberry. We moved down to a few more spots but nothing, then we went back to “Never Fail”. Another hour and Matt and I both got another pan sized brown trout each. A few beers to cap off a great couple of days and we headed home back to reality.
